WELCOME TO SPOFFORD LODGE

This unique property was built at the turn of the 20th Century as a school by a philanthropist named Spofford for a grand total of $8000! It was later purchased by the Freemasons, sometime in the 60’s and they held their meetings and ceremonies in the main hall until my Husband and I purchased it in the summer of 2022. We began renovating in fall and completed the renovations of the first and second floors by Christmas 2023.

The property was in a severe state of disrepair and also had very few modern facilities, such as plumbing, safe electrics and not a lot of functional heating so, while the building retains its original charm and many characteristics, a lot of it is brand new. We named the property Spofford Lodge after both the original builder and the Freemasons use of the building as their Lodge, funnily enough the name Spofford originates in Yorkshire, England, which is where my Husband and I are from…so, it all made serendipitous sense.

Each Suite as Unique as you are

Spofford Lodge has 3 luxury suites, each unique in its character.

Each suite has a King bed, its own bathroom replete with soaking tub and large rainfall shower and a well-appointed kitchenette. The memory foam mattresses and a very quiet locale make for a magical night's sleep, while the top of the range coffee machines will ensure you can enjoy waking up for a day filled with exploring and adventures.

The property itself stands tall and proud one block away from the Bucksport waterfront which has a very welcoming Harbor walk and a bustling local town vibe, not to mention unparalleled majestic views of Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Bridge and observatory. Enjoy a sightseeing tour on a local Lobsterboat, grab an ice-cream from the famous local ice-cream take-out window, take in a movie at the 150-year-old theater or grab a glass of wine in a secret courtyard, all just steps away from the front door.

Of course, Mid-coast Maine has plenty to offer both near and far, you will find plenty of suggestions once you arrive and we are always available to make recommendations during your stay.

Our property is just 40 minutes from the famed Acadia National Park, 30 minutes from Bangor International Airport and 30 minutes to mid-coast gem, Belfast. Trendy Searsport is just 15 minutes away and a great place to catch live music, great food and local brews as well as a little retail therapy.

We must be clear to mention that the suites are all up a large flight of stairs. Guests must be able to carry their luggage or overnight bags up the stairs as there is no concierge service available. The suites are therefore sadly not suited for guests with mobility issues for this reason.

7 YEARS HOSTING EXPERIENCE

My husband Alex and I (Lisa) have been hosting guests in our home for 7 years on varying platforms. From Airbnb and VRBO to Booking.com (just in 2018) and Mister B&B. It is our passion to host friends, family and guests in a unique, thoughtful space that we have personally created. The special touches you will encounter during your stay really are heartfelt and we love to share them with you.

We currently live at Spofford Lodge below the suites so you might see us coming and going during your stay and so long as we're not hurrying to a meeting, we love to chat. You may also meet our cat. She lives with us and is an indoor/outdoor cat. She does NOT go in the suites so they are allergen free, however, she might greet you loudly on the steps outside or in the entrance hall. She is very vocal, a little skittish yet bossy and her name is BR.

If you have any questions at all that we haven't covered in our listings, please feel free to reach out, we'll get right back to you and look forward to sharing our home with you.
